“Have no fear of perfection – you’ll never reach it.” ― Salvador Dalí

Tomorrow seems like a good day to begin.

“I’ll be more fresh,” my conscious mind insists. “I’ll be smarter. Better at what I do. More patient, more creative, and more insightful.” Above all, “I’ll be more prepared.”

I spent years listening to that voice. Yet season after season, the manuscripts piled up, half-written, un-written. Some not even scribbled down in notes.

They cluttered the closet of my mind, gathering dust. Unknown. Unfinished. Unshared.

I hated all those “un”s—and myself for allowing them.

But I wasn’t ready yet. I wasn’t good enough yet. Wasn’t patient enough, creative enough, or insightful enough yet. Above all, I wasn’t prepared.

But then, one day, I realized: Preparation is a process.

Intelligence can always be improved. Patience grows. Creativity ripens. Insight expands. If you’re serious about what you’re doing, the trajectory of growth never stops until you’re dead.

Every day I put off starting was a day further ’til the end. Another nail in the coffin of completion. One more chance for those “un“s to pile up, prefixing the actions I ought to have taken.

That’s when I stopped.

I quit putting off the projects that mattered most and started doing them instead. They weren’t as good as I had hoped they’d be. But they got done. Some of them even reached an audience.

And the funny thing was, on the other side, I found myself smarter. Better at my craft. More patient. More creative. A little more insightful. Maybe even something approaching . . . prepared.

I like that feeling.

Tomorrow may seem like a good day to begin, but today is all I’ve been given. I’ll say “yes” to today. Will you?
